E!Online Interviews Guest Star Courtney Ford

E!Online has interviewed Courtney Ford (Dexter) about her upcoming role on The Vampire Diaries as Vanessa Monroe. She gives some hints at what may be ahead for her character…

“I play Vanessa Monroe, a Duke University grad student who’s helping Alaric (Matt Davis), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) with Isobel’s research. It’s a really nice arc.”

Isobel, Elena’s birth mom and Alaric’s wife, was so obsessed with vampires that she persuaded Damon to turn her into one. Is Vanessa going to ask the same favor of the sexy Salvatore brother?

Not a chance, Courtney dished. “Vanessa has a conflict, because she studies all this wonderful mythology and folklore, but half of her is a complete skeptic. Half of her is a believer, and half of her is a skeptic, and she goes back and forth. It’s a big conflict for her.”

When we asked Courtney whether Vanessa would see any action in the romance department, her reaction revealed that she’s obviously hooking up with someone…but Courtney’s lips are sealed: “I want to tell you so much, but I can’t,” she said, laughing. “They’ll kill me if I reveal too much!”

We finally have a synopsis for The Return!

KATHERINE HAS RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE — Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena (Nina Dobrev) arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s and Jeremy’s fate. At the hospital, Sheriff Forbes (guest star Marguerite MacIntyre) is comforted by Matt (Zach Roering), Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) while she waits to hear if Caroline (Candice Accola) will survive the car accident. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love. Meanwhile, still reeling from his father’s death, Tyler (Michael Trevino) is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood (guest star Taylor Kinney, “Trauma”), arrives to console the family. Season 2 Spoilers

Our favorite cast is filming again and that means Season 2 is on the horizon! It also means it’s time for some Season 2 Spoilers!

Thanks to TV Guide Megabuzz for this tidbit that teases how the werewolves and vampires will interact.

How will the vamps and weres interact on The Vampire Diaries? — Tamara
MICKEY: “In our world, our vampires know very little about the werewolf mythology, other than what anybody who’s watched Wolfman or read books has learned,” says executive producer Julie Plec. “They’re going to be surprised at what they can do.” Well, not everyone will be surprised. Katherine, it turns out, has a long history with the werewolves of Mystic Falls.

And MTV Hollywood Crush had a talk with Kevin Williamson and he revelaed that we might be seeing a new love triangle this season!

“Something happens in the first episode that’s sort of a game changer,” Kevin said… And, thankfully, the game-changing event will also include our favorite female sidekicks, Katerina Graham and Candice Accola.

Actually, Kevin said he’s excited to give the show’s sideline characters a lot more camera time in season 2. “What’s nice about this is that Matt, Caroline, Tyler, and Bonnie were all sort of our secondary characters — they are not part of the triangle. Now, all the storylines I wanted to tell last year and didn’t have time, I can tell them. I’m grateful I can tell the stories I’ve been sitting on. It will involve Caroline and Bonnie and Matt and Tyler, and a new triangle will be born.”

Also Ausiello revealed that we will be getting a new mysterious character this season who will be played by Courtney Ford (Dexter).

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Courtney Ford — a.k.a. Trinity’s daughter on Dexter — has landed the potentially recurring role of Vanessa, a grad student at Duke who helps Damon, Alaric, and Elena go through Isobel’s old research.

“She’s not without her own intrigue,” he [Kevin Williamson] told me. “It’ll be a nice little part for someone. And it’s a part that could evolve into this massive story line or we could gut her like a fish.”

Michael Ausiello from EW.com confirmed yesterday that Taylor Kinney (Trauma) will be joining The Vampire Diaries as the original character Mason Lockwood, the younger brother of Mayor Lockwood a.k.a. Tyler’s uncle. The actor will be first appearing in the season 2 premiere, here’s a description of the character:

Mason Lockwood: Described as Tyler’s “cool” uncle, Mason is sexy and athletic and possesses an easygoing charm. Though he has more control than his nephew, he can “flip in an instant” if crossed.
