Zap2it: What to Expect from “The Return”

Still wanting to know more about the season 2 premiere even with just only a few hours left? No problem! Carina MacKenzie from Zap2it got it all covered… Check her tidbits about what to expect on tonight’s episode “The Return”.

Warning: It contains spoilers.

  • First thing’s first – this episode is hot. Between Katherine’s fashion choices, a good long look at Wesley’s abs, and one of the most sizzling make-out scenes I’ve ever witnessed on screen, I’m expecting a run on cold showers around 9 p.m. EST tomorrow.
  • When Vicki died in the first season, we learned that nobody on this show is safe. Keep that in mind. If there’s anything I know about “The Vampire Diaries,” it’s that if you think things are going to be okay… you’re wrong.
  • Two characters will share a first kiss.
  • Somerhalder and I spoke over the summer about how much he hates Damon’s most vulnerable moments. Let’s just say he must have really, really, really hated one of the scenes in this episode. Really.
  • Stefan’s protective instincts will emerge in a way they never have before. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.
  • Someone will do something unforgivable.
  • Tyler’s rage will reach a new level. I gasped out loud during one particularly charged scene.
  • What you won’t see: Alaric. Matt Davis is absent from this episode, but with so much action packed into it, you probably won’t miss him… much. This doesn’t foreshadow his presence throughout the season, though. I hear that Alaric’s storylines will still be essential to the plot, and he and Damon will become even more entangled as they try to find answers.

KATHERINE HAS RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE — Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena (Nina Dobrev) arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s and Jeremy’s fate. At the hospital, Sheriff Forbes (guest star Marguerite MacIntyre) is comforted by Matt (Zach Roering), Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) while she waits to hear if Caroline (Candice Accola) will survive the car accident. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love. Meanwhile, still reeling from his father’s death, Tyler (Michael Trevino) is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood (guest star Taylor Kinney, “Trauma”), arrives to console the family.

Buzzsugar’s Interview with Kat Graham

Filed under Cast & Crew, General News, Interviews

Buzzsugar.com has interviewed Katerina Graham about what’s to come for Bonnie in Season 2. She talks about what’s ahead for Bonnie, werewolves, the posibility of Damon & Bonnie hooking up and more!

BuzzSugar: What are you most excited about in the upcoming season?
Katerina Graham: I’m really excited about the season premiere, honestly. There have been so many episodes shot after that — we’re on episode six — but I’m really dying to see the season premiere, I’m just dying!

Buzz: Has it been weird acting with Nina Dobrev as Katherine and Elena now?
KG: No! Nina’s always great to do scenes with, and just because she’s a new character she’s still very much Nina Dobrev, still very much that person to work with. She’s handling Katherine really really well.

Buzz: I’ve noticed some sexual tension between Damon and Bonnie.
KG: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Buzz: Is there any possibility of a love connection between them?
KG: I don’t know . . . that’s the answer! Next question, next question!

Buzz: Is there a chance of another love interest for Bonnie then?
KG: I think there’s a chance, but do I know if it’s going to happen? I don’t. [But] hopefully. It would be nice!

Buzz: Are we going to see Bonnie kicking ass this season?
KG: Oh, yeah, from the jump she’s kicking ass. She’s going to try — although she might not succeed sometimes, she’s going to be trying to kick ass. She’s going to be doing her thing.

Buzz: How will the addition of werewolves affect the show?
KG: It completely affects the show, it alters everything that you might have thought the show was gong to be. Werewolves are going to play such an important part this season. I know that notoriously vampires and werewolves don’t get along, so that creates a whole other conflict for everyone to deal with, and then Katherine’s back, that’s a whole other thing. It’s so interesting to see how they’re all playing with each other. And I don’t think any of them are going to play nice.

Buzz: Will Bonnie be discovering more of her powers?
KG: Absolutely. She also discovers things she can do easily and certain things she’s learning and still developing. Over time we’ll discover more of her abilities, which is always fun for the fans to see.

Buzz: Will we see Bonnie happy again?
KG: Yeah! She’s trying. I think if you lose anyone you’re going to be bummed out, and that’s OK. She’s a bit edgier this year, definitely, but she’s still got the sense of humor and I always like to find the fun in the scenes.

Buzz: Is she always going to hate Stefan, and vampires in general?
KG: I don’t know if she’s always going to hate anyone, but I definitely feel that she’ll never let certain things go. She’ll never let the things that Damon’s done go, and she’ll never let the things that Stefan’s done go. She can maybe forgive them, but Bonnie doesn’t forget anything.

Buzz: So spill, are you Team Damon or Team Stefan?
KG: I would love to see Elena with Stefan because he really loves her. [It's a] no boundaries kind of love, and I believe in that and I believe in being with the people that are like that. I think that Damon hasn’t quite gotten over his ex yet. But we’ll see; plotlines can change and I can think that by the end of the season, I could think that Stefan hasn’t earned Elena. Damon hasn’t earned Elena. I think he’s got a lot to get over, especially the things that he’s done to Jeremy and the things he’s done to the family, and the things that he’s done to me. We’ll see. He could turn out to really prove himself. I think everyone deserves another chance.

Buzz: You were recently in Justin Bieber’s “Somebody to Love” video. Do you have Bieber fever?
KG: I totally have Bieber fever! Everyone around me has Bieber fever! We looove Justin Bieber. Everyone in my music camp is big supporters of him, and vice versa. He’s been very supportive of me and my music.

Buzz: Does Bieber watch The Vampire Diaries?
KG: He’s very aware of it! I don’t know how much time he has to watch TV, but he’s aware of it. I think he would make a great vampire.

Buzz: It would be awesome if you could get him to guest star.
KG: I know, fingers crossed!

Cast & Crew Interviews: Let’s Talk about Season 2

September 8, 2010 by Alex
Filed under Cast & Crew, General News, Interviews

With only one more day to go before season 2 premieres (yay!) there has been lots of interviews with cast & crew talking about what to expect on Season 2. Here’s a round up with some of these interviews to get you ready for tomorrow, enjoy!

Warning: Some of the interviews contain minor spoilers.

EW.com Interview: Ian Somerhalder.

EW.com interviews Ian about what’s to come for Damon on Season 2, Katherine’s return and about being chosen as EW’s Sexy Beast.

We know from promos that Katherine [Nina Dobrev as the vampire lover who essentially turned the brothers in 1864] says she’s returned for Stefan and never loved Damon. What can you tease about season 2?
Poor Damon. Katherine comes back, and it’s the chicken or the egg thing. In the story, Katherine obviously came before Damon, and Damon learned a lot of his antics from Katherine and then 150 years of cynicism. When I watch Nina be Katherine, it’s crazy, the similarity that you see between Katherine and Damon. She starts wreaking havoc in a very similar way that for most of season 1 Damon wreaked havoc — because he wanted something. You’re gonna see Damon in a way in which you haven’t necessarily seen him before dealing with Katherine and what happens after so many years of longing and wanting to be with someone, being hurt and let down in that extreme manner. It’s a lot of fun watching Katherine and how powerful and manipulative and sexy and crazy she is. It’s a lot of fun to play. It’s brutal for me. [In classic Damon delivery] Damon doesn’t always get what he wants now, which is boring for Ian, but great for the story.

The TV Chick Interview: Paul Wesley.

Paul talks with The TV Chick about season 2, how does Katherine’s arrival affects his character and what’s to come for Stefan.

In season 2, how does Damon and Stefans’s relationship change?
From my perspective, for me, I’m broken hearted by my brother because as sociopathic and religious as he is, I still love him, and he knows that as well. I think at this point Stefan — he doesn’t empathize as much or care. He’s like “You know what, I’m not going to deal with this guy.”

What do you think Stefan’s motivations are for season 2?
Elena, Elena, Elena, Elena…he loves her. Also, coming to terms with himself — sort of the transformation. Season 2 is going to be a lot of acceptance for Stefan, being like “this is who I am.” He’s going to do other things. Be jovial. I think it will be nice.

What are his feelings for Katherine?
It’s a mix. He thought he was in love with her at one point and she’s the person that is responsible for his immortality. It’s heavy. [He looks at her with] disgust but at the same time a little bit of sort of interest.

Hollywood Crush Interview: Sara Canning.

Sara Canning talks with Hollywood Crush about Jenna’s role in season 2 and her relationship with Alaric.

Part 1: ‘Alaric’s Going To Be A Good Dad One Day’
“I don’t think it’s going to remain all sunshine and rainbows,” she hinted. “I haven’t gotten the exact storyline, and I think things could change, but there’s so much conflict anyway. I think the fact that Alaric is dating Jenna, and knowing that her niece is dating a vampire and being in an alliance with these vampires—I think that alone will cause some pretty major conflicts. I think we’ll see some happy times and see how things progress from there.”

Part 2: Jenna ‘Holds Down The Fort In Reality’

“There’s so much going on that doesn’t involve solely vampires—it’s just as much about watching relationships develop and crumble, and teenagers dealing with their parents, heartache and betrayal, and the history of the town—the sort of status system. It’s an important aspect that Jenna is holding down the fort in reality. As much as Jeremy and Elena can be swept up in this mystic world that is encompassing their own reality, they can always go home, and Jenna is really there for them.”

Collider.com Interview: Ian Somerhalder & Michael Trevino.

Ian and Michael talk about what’s to come for their character in season 2.

Question: Ian, what hints can you give about what’s coming up for Damon in Season 2?

Ian: I do know that when Damon finds out that it was not Elena that he kissed, he’s going to blow his top. He’s not going to be very happy about it. Also, by virtue of the fact that there are other supernatural elements coming to town, Damon is going to have to make a decision and figure out whether he can work with Stefan to protect what they love, their way of life and all the things that come with it.

Michael, what can you say about the evolution of your character this season?

Michael: I don’t know much. One big thing is that there’s Uncle Mason. Mason Lockwood is a younger, hipper brother of Mayor Lockwood (Robert Pralgo), Tyler’s dad, and he comes to town. He takes Tyler under his wing and will probably be there for awhile to explain to him why he lashes out all the time and has this rage. He’ll give reasons to that and school him on the Lockwood ancestry from 1864, the werewolf gene, where that came from and why they have it. Somebody will probably turn into a werewolf, at some point. It’s going to be a process. We’re not going to show all our cards right away.

Will Tyler be a villain?

Michael: Yes. Tyler was always a bully and a prick, but now that he has this supernatural ability, he’ll be a villain. Yes, definitely. You can’t just have Damon around, kicking people’s asses and being a punk. If they can write for me as well as they write for Damon, then it will be fun.

The TV Chick Interview: Steven R. McQueen.

Steven R. McQueen gives some hints about Jeremy’s future on the show.

What’s coming up for you this season?
There isn’t much I can give away because of the cliffhanger. I can tell you that Jeremy’s pushed around a lot. He’s lost everything that has mattered to him, and has no father figure and has no mother to give him guidance. So he develops a mindset that he’s done being pushed around and starts to push back.

What about his relationship with Elena, that’s still kind of fragile?
I think he starts to view things from a more logical standpoint, rather than acting on emotion. He sees people for what they are. He doesn’t trust anyone. Elena’s the only family he has left besides Aunt Jenna, but she’s a different age and doesn’t quite understand all this natural crazyness that’s going on. So though he doesn’t trust Elena, it’s the only connection to humanity he really has left.

Pop-damage.com Interview: Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec.

Executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec about talk about werewolves, witches and why Katherine came back to Mystic Falls.

Josh Hatala: So Katherine’s back? And she came for Stefan?

Kevin Williamson: Katherine being back in Mystic Falls is a bit of a game changer for the show. How is this going to affect Damon and Stefan in terms of Katherine now being back in town? And it’s so hard to talk about it without giving anything away. Everything’s a surprise. She comes back and pretty much stated why she was back. It will be fun to sort of watch that play out. If you watched our show in the past, you know there’s always more than one reason someone’s there and some of the motives of our characters. It’s a huge journey.

JH: Last year, you were trying to establish the show. Now that you have, do you feel more pressure to add extra elements?

KW: To try and top ourselves? You know there is a lot of pressure to keep it up. It’s a very hard show to write at this moment, because there’s so much genre mixed with relationships and characters. I didn’t even realize how hard it was going to be. But I do think we kind of found the rhythm to our show which is [about] the human relationship and the mythology. And so yes, we are going to continue the mythology. We’re sort of going back to zero and telling a new story, but it’s a story that you already know half of it because you watched the first season, so it’s sort of the other half. We’re just going to continue the story. There’s so much you still don’t know about 1864. What happened? Why wasn’t Katherine in the tomb? How did she escape? Where did she go? Why did she come to Mystic Falls to begin with? What was in Mystic Falls? So there’s all these fun questions that we’re going to explore and how the Lockwood curse factors into it.

Kansascity.com Interview: writers Sarah Fain & Elizabeth Craft.

Kansascity.com has talked with the two new addition on the Vampire Diaries writing team this season Sarah Fain and Elizabeth Craft (“Angel”, “The Shield”, “Dollhouse”, “Lie to Me”). As they revel on the interview, both are on twitter, so make sure to follow them at @elizabethcraft and @smfain!

Q. What’s different about “The Vampire Diaries” from other shows you’ve worked on?

Fain: Well, it’s a character show with huge genre elements, so it feels familiar to us.

Craft: Actually, this is the first show we’ve worked on that didn’t have a (weekly) “case” of any sort to it. Think about it: “Dollhouse” had a case. “Angel” had a case. “The Shield” obviously had a case. “Lie to Me” had a case. “Glory Days” had a case. So this is the first that doesn’t. It’s fun. I think we’re learning a lot, because you don’t have that “case” to hang your hat on, plot-wise. It’s a learning experience. And we like anything that’s challenging us and moving us forward.

But as we’ve seen in recent years, shows like that have a tendency to implode. Why didn’t that happen last year to “Vampire Diaries”?

Craft: Julie and Kevin and the creators went through so much story. Every episode felt like a season finale: “That happened? (gasp) Omigod, that happened? (gasp)” And you think, “That must be the end of the season!”

Fain: “How will they possibly keep this going?” And then they do.

Yeah, speaking of that, what’s going to happen in Season 2? Obviously when Elena walks into that kitchen, something’s going to happen …

Craft: Big things happen. But we’re so hesitant to spill any beans.

Fain: Kevin has said that someone dies. (Long pause)

Craft: Beyond that I would hesitate to say anything, except that it fulfills the promise set up by Season 1.
